I've just installed a new addon for USG that will allow members to bulk download their photos.
I have never recommended that USG members hold their only copies of their photos on USG. As I've always said, USG is not a cloud service and there is never a guarantee that something could happen with the website or server it's hosted on and your photos would be gone forever.
Well, USG's future is uncertain and could be shutting down or changing drastically at some point. There is a major server move that's going to happen within the next 2 to 4 weeks that will probably go fine but there's always a chance it won't.
So, if you have any photos you don't have copies of, now is the time to download them from USG.
The good news is....
I just bought a new addon for this website to make the process a bit easier. It allows members to bulk download their photos. It's not perfect but it sure beats having to individually download each photo.
Keep in mind, this only works to download your own photos, not photos by other members.
-------------------------------------
Here's an explanation on how to use it:
You can download either photos from the Gallery or from your Albums.
To Download Gallery Photos:
To download photos you posted to the main Gallery, go to your profile page ( https://usg-online.com/index.php?account/ ) then click the Gallery Tab (You'll only see a Gallery tab if you have posted photos to the Gallery).
On a desktop: hover over any photo thumbnail and you will see a checkbox in the upper left corner.
On a mobile or tablet: the checkbox in the upper left corner should already be visible.
For all devices, click one or more checkboxes and at the very bottom left of your screen, you'll see a dropdown box appear. Click it and you'll then see an option to "Download media items..." Click that and a "Go" button will appear. Click the Go button and you'll jump to another page with a green "Download" button. Click that and you'll be able to save a zip file of your photos to your device.
At the button of the Gallery thumbnail page you'll also see a "Select All" checkbox (once you've check one checkbox). Click that to choose all the photos on the page if you want to download them all.
Depending on how many photos you are downloading, the download process can take some time as the photos/files have to be zipped up by the website software and then downloaded to your device.
There is a way to download multiple pages of photos but I don't recommend it as it's complicated to do and could take a long time to process the request and could be prone to timing out.
It's not a perfect system but as mentioned above, it's better than having to download your photos one at a time.
To Download Album Photos:
This is much simpler. Just go to your profile (link above) and click the Albums Tab (you'll only see it if you have posted Personal Albums.
Click on any album to view the photos in it and you'll see a "Download" button in the upper right above the photos. Just click that and it will zip up the photos in the album and then prompt you to download them to your device.
Cheers,
John
